To Turn You On

Words, Music, Visuals.

I am not a young guy. I'm not old either. For whatever reasons my musical tastes run from the sixties through today. I switch up what I listen to quite often. I try not to get stuck on anything for too long. What I listen to does vary with my mood and my current situation. It also does influence what I shoot in many ways.

One of my favorite albums (CD in today's world) from the 80s is Avalon by Roxy Music. There is one song on there that has struck a cord with me recently and I have been listening to it over and over. It reminds me of someone. Just one of those things. When I put the disc in about a week or so ago, I remembered how much I liked the song "To Turn You On" on many levels. It is soothing, it paints a vivid picture for me and now, I find myself associating the song to this someone. I'd love to do a nighttime shoot in a softly lit room high above 5th Ave... better yet, perhaps just be there for the experience I see in these words:

I could show you in a word
If I wanted to
A window on a world
With a lovely view
From close up inside a single room
With an open book aside
Like you read in school
It´s so easy, believe me
When you need fun
I do anything to turn you on
Anything to turn you on
It´s raining in new york
On fifth avenue
And off broadway after dark
Love the lights don´t you
I could walk you through the park
If you´re feeling blue
Or whatever
Spring summer whenever
Winter through fall
I´d do anything to turn you on
Anything to turn you on
I could leave you as you were
If I wanted to
Then I wonder is it fair
Now you´re on your own
Who cares about you
Except me, God help me
When things go wrong
I do anything to turn you
Must phone me, you know me
When things go wrong
I do anything to turn you on.

Think I'll go give it another listen...

Very cool band from England. They started in the 70s. Do you know the song, "Love is the Drug?" That's them. Brian Ferry was the lead singer. Melodic rock would be the genre. Do check them out!

It has been a favorite of mine since its release, and while my musical tastes have changed over the years, I know I will never grow away from Avalon.

I head to bed tonight with it playing in my head. Thank you for that.

You are quite welcome. The album was far too under appreciated then for all it had (and still has) to offer. It was a fantastically produced and recorded record filled with great songs. It's nice to know of others who have the same appreciation! So thank you too! :) :floating:

Hmm... maybe you should take a trip to NYC... It's a pity that city is so damned expensive!

I think it would be well worth the trip under the right circumstances! :)

Avalon was and is a great listen. I note you called it a "fantastically produced and recorded record" in one of your comments. Do you still have the "record"? I do. Shit I am getting old.

I do! I still have roughly 300 "records" in my collection! Most are now on CD too! I have a B&O turntable that I spent something like $600-$700 on back in the day! :) My audiophile days included a Carver Cube, a Holographic pre-amp and a Denon tape deck too! Gawd, I miss that gear! I still have the TT. We're classic, not old Steve! :)

This borders on scary Scott as I also had a B&O turntable and actually still have a Denon tapedeck (not to mention the roughly 300 pieces of vinyl in a closet). Classic for sure!
